Primal Calling…
I told him I needed to go out…
He said, now what the hell is that…
I said I really really needed to go out; maybe he didn’t understand.
But, I needed to go out…
He looked at me exasperated…
The look on his face made no half hearted attempt to hide the disdain that was shining rudely from his huge, penetrating eyes…
‘We’ve got work to do. You know that. Why can’t you for once let go of your insane, whimsical ideas... You need to go out… Now has anyone ever heard something as weird as that…’
I look at him like… God knows how… All I know is that something in me croaked miserably…
‘Can you please for once take me as me…?’
Think I got tired and let it all go…
He simply didn’t bother to attend to my whimsies and began to work…
Obviously I was hurt…
I stood there for a minute or two…
(Why doesn’t she realize that he just doesn’t care: Heart Speaks)
I silently walk away. Needless to say the need was not satiated.
I had to fulfill it.
I change quietly. Red Tee, Blue Denims, Black Stole.
‘I’m set,’ I mumble to myself.
I pluck the bike keys from the place they’re usually hung…
‘M leavin’,’ I tell him stoically.
He just nods.
I walk down the stairs in urgency.
I know there’s some need… Only, I can’t place it…
I walk up to my bike… It stands there so forlorn and lonely…
‘Ummm… My baby needs a shower,’ I speak into its pricked antennae…
I rev up the engine.
My baby splutters.
Cough. Choke. Splutter. Cough. Choke. Splutter.
Finally, my baby comes to life.
Finally, I’m gonna know what’s this damn need all about.
Dear Reader, before you progress I think you need to read the Disclaimer.
This write-up is not fictional in character. It isn’t one of those stories that I write. It will be rude of you to expect anything earth shattering here.
This write up is an incident that happened to me today evening itself. Here, I am the protagonist.
End of Disclaimer.
I slowly maneuver the bike around the curve.
Now, my much needed ride has officially begun.
Let me tell you something about the weather around this time.
Now picture a cool breeze nicking at your earlobes. The sky is sometimes angry red, sometimes pink. Shades of blue, purple and indigo streak the pregnant skies, alternately.
There is this smell in the air. A smell so primal, basic and bountiful…
There is a slow, mounting rumble that sizzles up in the clouds.
Think we’re in for some heavy duty activity from the Heaven’s above.
I meander aimlessly, atop my zipping bike…
It feels so good, so very good to feel the wind in my face.
Suddenly I decide to drive faster.
Wow… I’m getting in synch…
Now the wind that hits my face seems cooler…
It’s like its kissing my face first tenderly, then urgently…
I accelerate…
A couple of guys pass by and make some corny nasty comment…
Frankly it’s a miracle that I even noticed…
Suddenly… really it was pretty much like it’s in the movies…
Slow motion…
I felt something cold trail down my cheek…
Cold, smooth… satiating…
Then, another something hits my fingers… my jean clad thighs, my mop of black hair…
Wow… first showers…
First showers of the season…
Suddenly there’s this blaze of lightening and the skies burst forth…
Huge, fat drops of rain begin to hit my awe-struck face…
I accelerate.
It continues to rain harder and I feel like I’m almost flying through some rain-filled realm…
It’s almost pouring now…
The rain drops are hitting my face with ferocity, clouding my eyes.
It’s getting harder for me to open my eyes and drive.
Out of nowhere, something in me begins to smile…
I ask my heart, what happened?
‘Don’t you see,’ it says, ‘Your need has just been satiated…’
I nod, slowly. Then, vigorously.
The need…
Now I know.
I could explain you the origin of my need but I know you’d pass some corny comment…
But what the hell… when did I care about what people thought or for that matter, what they forgot to think…
You see, the need, it was the earth calling… another part of itself… me…
The Earth, The Need and Me…
Aren’t we all one…
So when the Earth was going to celebrate its communion with its mate; consummating its heat with the cool exquisite showers of the sky... It called for me…
And, I answered…
After all, I am an Earth sign…
Now you can snicker and laugh and say things if you wish…
Frankly, I’ve never cared.
Let me just wrap up by saying that the need was worth the ride…
The satisfaction, it was worth getting wet, getting soaked in the healing first showers…
I was giddy with happiness when I parked my bike.
I climbed the steps, two at a time.
He opened the door at the second ring.
Looked up at me from top to bottom…
‘Soaked eh?’ he smirked.
‘Told ya to stay indoors and get some constructive work done. This is what happens to feys when they go chasing some brainsick need…’ he pontificated.
I looked up him and smiled.
He smiled in return. His eyes were a couple of arrows, ready to pierce me with their sarcasm dripping gaze.
‘You’re not an Earth sign, are you?’ I drawled lazily, looking him in the eye.
Then I smiled again.
