Only a fool will wish upon a falling star
Burning its tail, beyond human reach
Falling stars will wait to fall,
Some old lessons to teach
A bad karma, shooting through the sky
Its brilliance set upon its tail;
Sailing through the night in maddening fervour -
Wishing for one more chance to stay put
In a deep inky ocean of black
Even falling stars can’t go back
Only a fool will take recourse
In prayers set upon a burning tail
Dizzying heights don’t sanction grace
Falling stars won’t make amends -
Falling so deviously into a stretch of eternity
No falling star can hand a pardon for impunity
Only a fool will wish upon a falling star
Romanticised in deep poetic trance
One that falls so unstable
Should not have been so fabled;
At least in its death it could have been spared –
The burden of human addiction for grace
Some more, and then some more
Falling, so dazed –
Into the inevitable;
Whizzing in the night light –
In death, most bright
Singing its swansong
Of old pains, old dreams, all astray
Old scars,
Cosmic whispers, haunting
Only a fool will wish upon a falling star

Dear Supriyad,
So another myth busted. First the man in the moon myth was busted. Now after reading your pasionate lines, I will not wish upon a falling star! What a beautiful imagination.

dear supriya,
now that is rationality cloaked in poetry!!
Aah , a dyed in the wool romantic that Iam, I still savour the moments that my Nani used to point out a falling star and ask me to make a wish!! Now,when the childhood innocence is eroded( not gone ,mind you),sometimes I still feel like wishing upon a falling star.
Though I guess for a few days to come your poetry may instil a vague feeling of disquiet?

LOL... I know.. consider pigs falling from the sky :-) Now that would scare me too ! :-) Its just that I was wondering about how a person in need, in want can be so foolish. And that even includes me :-)
Thanks! :-)

Hi Supriya,
Enjoyed your poem with a smile and with a thought. Smile because ......hmmm...may be you are unhappy with something for which this poem ....and thought is, why anybody will wish something from a star, let it be the falling one or twinkling one. Star is after all a star far beyond our reach......If you ask me I always get scared looking at the falling star...infact anything falling from a height.....let it be in life or a mere star.....
