Only a fool will wish upon a falling star
Burning its tail, beyond human reach
Falling stars will wait to fall,
Some old lessons to teach
A bad karma, shooting through the sky
Its brilliance set upon its tail;
Sailing through the night in maddening fervour -
Wishing for one more chance to stay put
In a deep inky ocean of black
Even falling stars can’t go back
Only a fool will take recourse
In prayers set upon a burning tail
Dizzying heights don’t sanction grace
Falling stars won’t make amends -
Falling so deviously into a stretch of eternity
No falling star can hand a pardon for impunity
Only a fool will wish upon a falling star
Romanticised in deep poetic trance
One that falls so unstable
Should not have been so fabled;
At least in its death it could have been spared –
The burden of human addiction for grace
Some more, and then some more
Falling, so dazed –
Into the inevitable;
Whizzing in the night light –
In death, most bright
Singing its swansong
Of old pains, old dreams, all astray
Old scars,
Cosmic whispers, haunting
Only a fool will wish upon a falling star

Bina :-)
Lucky charm stays put. Nothing changes that. I might be missing the romantic in me, but the ever hopeful in you makes me smile. Yes, in its heyday it was a brillaint star. And upon such a brillance of yore a wish can be tacked. And leaving behind a trail of blaze in the wake of its death... well... I would rather wonder at its brilliance than tack a wish upon it :-) The dying star needs its requiem too :-) Dont you think?
Loved your comment. Thanks :-)

supsie

tis ok to wish upon a falling star 'cos it was a rising star in its heyday
n the hopeful is wishing to reach same heights b4 falling to oblivion in a blazing glory-
a swansong- akin to a falling star leaving a blazing trajectory in its wake
what happened to that lurking romantic heart ms lucky charm?

Sceptic,
In the light of what I was trying to convey, a falling star fit, dont you think?
Thanks.

Sue,
Thats right - in love we hope, in need we hope and dream - and so on and so forth.
But then its foolish.
And we are some more foolish than before :-)
Thanks for liking.

Hullo Supriya
A falling star is a terminal phenomenon and not the right metaphor for yet to be completed long journey of life. That can be bst described by a rising star in the early morning darkness, awaitning its doom at the hands of a silently racing Sun to bring light and a new dawn.

Yes, you're right. it is foolish to pin your dreams to the tail of a comet. But, then only fools fall in love and when you are in love, you hope, you dream....
Like that song goes,
If your heart is in your dreams,
No request is too extreme.
Again, a star that goes away in a blaze of glory, momentarily stupifying us with its sheer beauty, may have something going with it. Like fools we can always hope that,
When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are,
Anything your heart desires might come true.
Hey, I enjoyed the poem. Good one.
Sue
