You’re not the only one who’s not sorry

We’ve always been one of a kind

Searching for things that weren’t there

And amused when we would find -

There are yet some more mistakes to make

There are yet more truths that we can fake

And sell them for a penny’s worth;

Swear on me, cross your heart and tell

How did you feel when you were caught?

Lying and cheating - did you feel the hurt?

Or did you feel that slight unfeeling

Of gross impatience setting in

‘What mistakes? No mistakes.’

‘I’m sorry,’ did you just go on and fake?

I’m telling you, just for one moment

Dispense with the show of shame

You know it, I know it

For all’s its worth

Regrets never figured in our game

Or let’s just change

A feeble moment

And trade it for honesty’s sake

Tell me all the things you don’t even remember,

All that got lost in the race to be fake;

No, it doesn’t matter

It’s not expected

Truth is a dawning that set on us

No bile of recrimination to plunder you

No noise, no fuss

Just

One moment’s worth

To taste the bitter flavour of us

You and me,

So alike

Just wondering if you feel it too

The slight convolution of being you

Shift uncomfortably on your feet

Don’t meet

My eyes, just retreat

In callous abandon, slight impatience

Setting in on us

Our embraceable damnation

In being me, in being you

I know even you’re not sorry too.
